Please read the blog piece wrote on January 18, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. I was packing my car and leaving my Timeshare to head to a business meeting. I met a mother and daughter in the elevator. I saw a poster about the Haiti Earthquake and donations being requested. I met the mother and daughter for a reason because I needed to help all the people in Haiti during this tragedy. I will head to Haiti and volunteer personally but at that point in time, my focus was to start a campaign.

The campaign was to raise $1 per person. I believe in the power that all dreams are possible. The people that dream and implement actions are the Dream Makers.

I am sitting in a hotel lobby and shaking as I type these words. I believe that this morning’s events in my life occurred to help the people of Haiti during this tragic event in their country. If you have been touched by the recent disaster in Haiti then this is a MUST read… And truly a one in a billion story.

It all started when I was packing my car to head home to Cincinnati, I saw a poster that triggered an amazing idea.

The poster in the elevator called to action, guests of the resort to give toiletries and can food to the front desk. The collection would be given directly to an organization to distribute to the people in Haiti. My heart fell to the floor because I felt so helpless. In addition, a vision of child flashed into my head. She told me about being in Florida and going to Disney. How in the world could there be suffering in another part of the world and how can I personally take the energy from the child in Orlando, Florida and direct that positive energy to Haiti.

The amazing events that followed, I immediately started driving to a dear friend to strategize an international marketing campaign. We drove to the restaurant and our energy was very excited. We started discussing marketing, and strategy. Suddenly, my friend said, Dean Hunt just walked in the door. Go over and introduce yourself.

I went over and invited him to our table. He said, I would like to join you. We were discussing his passion and marketing platform. In my heart, I wanted to share an idea with them. It was the right time and so I started explaining the helplessness I feel for the people of Haiti. I envision blogging and raising money $1 at a time. I want people around the world that feel helpless as well, join my cause and we could send this money to them immediately.

A gentleman, I will refer to him as Mr. X, leaned over to Dean and Nina. He whispered to them. I couldn’t hear them and I was so curious. Mr. X was in Haiti during the earthquake. He was sitting in a living room and preparing for a funeral. In a matter of seconds, he felt the earth shake all around him. When I looked into his eyes, I was seeing the event live and was speechless. Mr. X only had a short time and I wanted the world to hear his story.

One of the first questions I asked him, “Did your life flash in front of your eyes?” I was thinking in my heart, what would I have done if I was in his shoes. He said no. His focus immediately was to get out of the situation and save as many people as possible. He said right at his very moment, Haiti needs the essentials to survive. They need WATER, BREAD, and COMMUNICATION……… We exchanged contact information, and he was gone. I asked him if I could call him tonight because this will be implemented ASAP. He said yes, leave me a voice mail, and we will connect. I want to express something that he stated was very key for this campaign to help Haiti $1 at a time. Mr. X said, please donate the funds to the American Red Cross. This is amazing story and a great cause. Every avalanche starts with a snowflake, please don’t under estimate what a small contribution could make.
